Like I said in my original comment, it’s not ALL about the notes. I never said the notes don’t matter; obviously that’s a big part of it. But it’s really about accenting the rhythm with those notes, not about how many or what specific notes you are playing. Neil young’s solo on “Cinnamon Girl” is literally one note, but it works very well. Look at David Gilmour; he leaves lots of space between notes and his solos come off as being more vocal and relevant to the song.
