Nice old guitar many people would underestimate compared to the Gibson J-185 style jumbo which is X braced compared to this old Kay ladder braced treat. That means it sounds great for blues, bottleneck or just about anything. Huge bone jarring bass and strong dry trebles. These fresh new Martin Darco strings used during this video give a little more of a jangle than it usually has. This guitar has a lot of cheap touch ups and minor attempts to hide dings but the mojo is strong and it’s reliable and solid. A great blues guitar that you could bring camping without worrying about passing around the campfire. With a pickup in the sound hole it makes a killer live performer.
This is the same general brand and model Lightnin Hopkins began his notable career with and has that tone dead on the money. It’s about a 15.5″ inch wide lower bout. A 25.5″ scale length from nut to saddle. 41.25″ total length. Nut width a little less than 1-3/4″ and just about identical to the Gibsons of the era. A little more comfortable to play than a Martin dreadnought with similar bass response.
